| Puerto Peņasco, which is also known as Rocky Point, is located at the north end of the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California on some maps). It is only about a 12 mile drive from Playa La Jolla to Rocky Point. This area is known for it's beautiful white sand beaches, friendly people, fresh fish, shops and many restaurants. Even though this area is rapidly becoming a favorite vacation location it retains it's quaint Mexican ambiance. You can stroll down the Malecon (Old Port area) and buy fresh fish from the local fishermen, browse through the many shops and barter with the beach vendors. If you are looking for sporting activities, you'll find many things from which to choose. You might try a boat ride to bird island where you can swim, snorkel, dive or just enjoy the birds and dolphins that inhabit the area. If fishing is more your style, why not charter a local boat for some deep sea fishing. Still not what you're looking for? How about renting an ATV, para sailing, or rides on a banana boat. After that you might want a massage at a local salon, or just enjoy the sun, sand and people watching.
Are you a golfer? GOOD NEWS....The Jack Nicklaus golf course located at the Mayan Palace Resort is open. (It's only about 5 miles east of Playa La Jolla - on the same stretch of beach.). A little farther away is the new golf course at Laguna del Mar on Sandy Beach!
Feeling romantic? Does a dinner or sunset cruise sound good? When you have worked up an appetite for some of the local fare, you'll find many traditional Mexican taco stands as well as an abundance of restaurants. You'll find it hard to decide where to eat! Take a cruise and enjoy one of beautiful sunsets for which this area is known. Then you can stay in town and enjoy the nightclub activity or return to Playa La Jolla for some serious star gazing or a moonlight stroll on the beach!
